I suggest vthat it is more difficult to play the melody line and easier to rely on riffs or licks to get you through the solo. It takes much practice and hard work to be comfortable and confident enough with your playing to play melody with embelishments. All too often I will get part way through a song and play a note that REALLY doesn't belong. No one else may notice but me, but that's still enough to send me to the woodshed for a while before I try it again in public.
