Subject: "Starter kit"

I am a fledgling harpist with aspirations of playing the blues.

The harp I have been playing came packed with an instruction book and an
audio cassette tape published by "Mad Jack" (learn how to . . . play the
harmonica, juggle, make friendship bracelets, etc.). While I am pleased
that this package introduced me to the harp and actually got me hooked, I
suspect that the harp itself is of very poor quality -- there are no
markings on it whatsoever.

I am well aware that my present level of incompetence is as much to blame
as the harp for some of the awful noises that I'm making, but I am anxious
to buy a better quality harp.

I have been reading Harp-L, as well as dozens of harp-related web sites
looking for recommendations about which harp the beginner should buy. This
is my proposed purchase plan:

Over the next several months I will buy (at least) 3 harps:
1st - Lee Oskar Model 1710 in the key of C
2nd - Hohner Pro Harp in the key of A
3rd - Suzuki Promaster in the key of ???
I am also planning to buy Huang Silvertones in the keys of C, A, D, Bb, F,
and G.

Regarding the different manufacturers, my goal is to determine which harp
(or harps) allow me to play at my best -- and best suit my "style"
(although right now I don't think I have one). Lee Oskars seem to be the
favorite of Harp-L subscribers, Hohner is a name I have heard for years
(and at least one review suggested that the Pro Harp is a good harp), and
Suzuki seems to be offering harp technology that is new and cutting edge.
Regarding the Huangs, I have read more than once that they are a great
value -- a lot of harp for the money.

My choice of keys is based strictly on recommendations that I have read at
various sites, as well as in the Mad Jack book. At least one source said
"the more keys, the better."

I apologize for the length of this message, but I want to stay on the right
track with my harp playing. So, finally, I'm asking for your help and
feedback. Is my plan sound? Are my choices right -- or at least
reasonable?
