Subject: Hughes & Kettner units/small harp amp fans

If you don't like gearhead tube talk, skip this one. There's been a lot of
discussion on the www recently concerning this. And, I've been doing some of
my own research on low-wattage tube amps and tube preamps. This is one route
toward getting a killer amplified harp sound (single EL84 amps-- Kalamazoo
Model 1,Crate VC508, etc.) I realize this won't appeal to the large harp amp
fans, but that's ok.
I found a unit which was made by Hughes & Kettner which may be an undiscovered
jewel for harp players. It's the Hughes & Kettner "Crunch Master" aka "Blues
Master" (EL84, load, spk sim) - Contains an 12AX7 and an EL84, run to give
crunch, with speaker simulation built-in. 3 eq bands. Pre & Power tube gain
all in one...sounds like a killer box. I've heard rave reviews from anybody
who's owned one. One problem....Hughes & Kettner stopped production of this
unit in 1992. Anybody seen one of these sitting in a music store anywhere?
H&K also made another similar unit in this era called "Cream Machine", and
also have a current model out called "The Tubeman" (which is considerably
higher).
