Subject: Advice for 'fessor Mojo

Well, I bit the bullet. I registered for a week long course in
Introductory Blues Harmonica conducted by Grant Dermody at the Port
Townsend Country Blues Festival. I have never played a harmonica or any
music instrument before but I am a sucker for Sonny Boy Williamson II, as
you all know. I have some amazing unreleased live material by him from
Europe that I will be taking along to the class to see if I can play at
least a few licks. My expectations are minimal; I just want to understand
the instrument and how Sonny Boy used it and I want to spend some time with
a good friend Jerry Ricks (guitarist and blues singer who played second
guitar for Son House, Skip James, Mississippi John Hurt and Mississippi
Fred MacDowell) and his wife.
Any words of advice from those of you who play harps, especially those I
met at Glendora (you know that Maggie Mortenson has been nominated for a
Keepin' The Blues Alive award to be presented in Memphis on May 30), I
would appreciate.
I will bet you thought I could play, huh. Not a note.
