At last some of the recordings made by Swedish Radio producer Olle Helander for the "I blueskvarter" series have been officially released. It's a double CD which contains great harp from Walter Horton (6 songs backed by Robert Nighthawk) and Slim Willis (5 songs where he's part of the Johnny Young band also featuring Otis Spann) and some acoustic guitar work by Mike Bloomfield. Mike's guitar behind Sunnyland Slim is impressive, on a boogie woogie type number he plays a very percussive style to make up for the lack of drums. Each performer was paid $50 which may have been pretty good in 1964, Bloomfield is said to have been perfectly happy with $10. Details can be found at http://www.jeffersonbluesmag.com/ There's a previously unreleased/unbootlegged Horton track - "You Can't Mistreat Me" - which wasn't on the "An Offer You Can't Refuse"LP/CD. The speed has now been adjusted, the songs used be a semi-tone too low, but I think it's OK now. If the sales are satisfactory we may get to hear some New Orleans and Memphis sessions (featuring a young Charlie Musselwhite) in the near future. Christer
