Hello Alec,

Sight reading is almost nearly a must in a professional pit orchestra. You will have a harmonica book with all of your parts written out for you to play. There are only a few measures which allow you to improv in this production. Harmonicas other than diatonic are chromatic and double bass--I also found a use for a polyphonia.

Two of the stage companies that I played it for even gave me a piano score and told me to play as much as I wanted--in the songs that didn't already have a harmonica part. Both of these companies only hired the essential musicians (and harmonica was one) and had a small orchestra.
