Subject: Big River - thanks

Hi Folks,

I'd just like to thank everyone who responded to my Big River Musical
inquiry. It is amazing how many players on this list have played in
that. I hope to be the next. I got many more replies off-list and the
overwhelming majority report that sight-reading for this particular
musical is not really essential. Many reported that they went in
prepared to read only to discover that the "last guy" improvised and the
conductor was giving them quite a bit of latitude. I have ordered the
soundtrack already and I'll figure out the parts off that so I can go in
prepared for anything. I can probably read well enough that once I know
the part, I can follow the score.

Thanks again.

Alec

P.S. - Winslow mentioned that the score is all written at actual pitch.
Wow, that seems hard. I can see why one might be tempted to play it on
chromatic even though it was written for diatonic. My reading is poor
enough on a C harp in first position or an F-harp in cross. I can't
imagine grabbing say an Eb harp and trying to play music written at
actual pitch. Has anyone already transposed the score?
