Subject: Epiphone tube 10

Hi All

My wife did a whip round recently for my birthday and bought me a new
amp- what a woman! Jim Conway put me on to them, and at $300 (compared
to $500 for the VC508 and $800 for the Pro Jr) it's a reasonable buy

It's pretty reasonable sounding little number with a single 6L6 (5881)
power tube and 12AX7 pre amp. Does anyone know what the go is with amps
like this - I assume it's single ended class A, but would like to know
more - also how can you tell if it's got cathode biasing - as I
understand they are self biasing and I may be able to substitute another
6L6 in the place of the one already there. Can someone advise me
please.

It's got an 8" speaker in a closed back enclosure, and has good tone,
though I cant help thinking it could do with a little more bass (I
usually run my amps with bass at around 4-6 and a fair amount of treble
and mid; around 4-6, this one I have the bass up to 10 and treble and
mid right down 1-2)

Does anyone know anything about these- it puts out a fair amount of
volume, and the feedback was within reasonable bounds even with the
12AX7 in place - I eventually subbed a JAN AY in it's place because I
felt it had the edge in presence, but there wasn't much in the way of
difference

I have a freind with a VC508 and Pro Jr, we're looking into a "battle of
the amps" type of night in Ballarat in late October, and will try them
head to head - will post the results

Ciao
