Subject: Bass Harmonica Questions

Hi, all,

I'm a bass-player-turned-guitar-player-turned-bass-player who, having
recently discovered all the bountious resources on the internet for
harmonica players, have re-started studying harmonica in [relative] earnest.
(Thanks to all of you who have posted sites with helpful harp content)

I have seen bass harmonicas, and I understand the Hohners are all blow,
single reed (rather than Tremolo or Octave-tuned), and I'm facinated by the
concept of bass harp (being a bass player). So here are my questions:
1. Could any of you suggest web resources for bass-harpers?
2. Where would I find recorded examples of bass-harp?
3. I recently purchased a Hohner Big River tuned to Low D - ( I like the
tone) could this and other "low-octave" diatonics be effectively employed as
a "Bass" instrument?
4. Since the cost of a real Bass Harmonica is so high (for a "married with
kids" kinda guy like myself), is there a more economical alternative than
buying new?
5. I guess that last question infers a used purchase - but what the heck do
you do with a USED harp? -It seems to me kinda like a used tooth
brush -waaay too intimate an item to take "seconds" on - can a harp be
effectively cleaned/sterilized without wrecking it?
6. I'm assuming Bass Harp is traditionally an Orchestral-type instrument,
but the types of music I enjoy playing would be better classified as
"popular", or "folk"-sie, and blues.....What about trying to use a bass harp
in these contexts?
