Subject: Amp quickness (?)

Is there such thing as different degrees of amp "quickness", which to me
means the response time of the mic/amp rig to sound a played note?

I ask because it seems like I could detect differences in the response time
of a Bassman reissue with changes in the middle preamp tube. I was using
a 12AY7 in the first gain stage, a 12AU7 in the phase inverter, and
swapping between a 12AU7 and 12AY7 at the middle. The amp seemed quicker
with the 12AY7, with volume control adjusted to have similar volumes with
both. I am not sure that it is real.

Anyone else note differences in amp quickness? Is there an electronic
explanation for such an observation?
