Howdy Fellow Reed Meisters..............I have a couple of things. First I owe a thanks to all who recommended various Diddly-beat songs. I defaulted to Billy Boy Arnold and "I Wish You Would" for solo material. Second, I settled on Bb in 2nd position for "Chitlins Con Carne". Third, I just repaired (sort of) my T-Bone! Mind you, I'm no techy, but I take things apart carefully and put them back together using all the parts (usually). Well, the 5 draw had developed a ringing/fluttering sound. The note was still clear but this buzz sound came along with it. It sounded somewhat like those 1 draws where the cover plate isn't high enough and the reed bangs on the cover plate. I knew that couldn't be the reason. I took off the cover plates and checked. The buzz was still there. The reed plates are held on with three hex head screws (courtesy of Hohner) and a pair of slotted screws (courtesy of Tim Moyer). (I think that's right) After removing the screws and holding the reed plates and comb together, I drew the 5 hole. No buzz. I put screws back in one at a time and checked the 5 draw each time. Well it turned out that the middle Hohner screw when tightened down was the culprit. I backed it off a little and the buzz went away.
Now this harp is probably about a year old and has been performing wonderfully (thank you Tim)since I got it. The buzz developed a couple of days ago. How is it that backing off a screw that has not been touched for a year fixes a problem? I don't get, but I don't have too. It works great now (again).
By the way I just noticed, I haven't gotten any harp-l digests since 12/31/99. (#386) Do we have a Y2K problem here? I'm cc'ing a couple of folks, just in case. Are you guys getting any Harp-L??
