Hi all, Aebersold is a good tool, I used it a lot over the years, but I've something I consider even better, nowadays, in the computer era - especially for beginners who might have trouble keeping pace with the sometimes too fast tunes on Aebersold tapes/CDs: "BAND IN A BOX" (by PGMusic). With this computer software you can create your own play along tracks with a variety of rhythm sections, in different styles (Jazz, Latin, Pop/Rock, Country...) and in YOUR OWN TEMPO ! You just enter the chords and, if you like, the melody of a song you want to practice, and can set the tempo (and thus increase it with your progress) or transpose the tune in another key. The software is also able to create jazz solos in the style of musicians as Miles Davis, Dexter Gordon, Bill Evans etc. which you can use as a inspiration or guideline for your own solos. And you can even print the music for your co-musicians if you want to perform the song on stage.
