Subject: 7025 and 12ax7

For what it's worth....

The 7025 tubes were designed as a low-noise version of the 12ax7 for
noise-critical applications (i.e. hi-fi stereo amps, millitary radio
receivers, etc.). Back in the 50's and early 60s there was a distinction
with these tubes that is essentially gone today. Pretty much all of the
12AX7 tubes produced today are low-noise in design. Thus a 12ax7 tube is a
7025 tube and vice versa. If you are using NOS tubes be sure to use a 7025
when the amp design calls for that tube (the NOS tubes are different from one
another). This is most commonly the primary preamp stage of the amp.
