Hi All,
Some very good news. Thanks to the endless devotion of our tech, Jonas Karlsson as well as all of our workers, who have been looking into software solutions for us, archives is up and running!! We are still experiencing trouble with our web interface. However, we are working on the problem. One result of both the web interface and the archives not receiving updates is that we still have some users out there who haven't been receiving Harp-L since January. So, if you aren't getting this message, please raise your hand ;-). Actually, if you know of anyone out there who might not be aware that Harp-L is back up and running, please let them know. Some of our friends still miss us deeply. On another note, I have a couple of reminders for everyone to help all of our readers receive their mail in the most efficient manner.
HTML - does not work with majordomo and does not work well at all with the digest and other aspects of our mail software. A few of us still use html pretty regularly. Please go into your mail preferences and hit the "plain text" option - as opposed to the rich text (RTF) or html styles. This is also useful when communicating with folks off-list as well. Our software tries to forward everything it can to the digest and archives in plain text and any other format makes the messages very difficult to read.
ATTACHMENTS - Attachments are another problem. They just don't "work" right with the digests or archives at all. Instead, if you are forwarding text, you will need to copy and paste it directly into the return message. Very often if you just "forward" something it will take the form of an attachment, so try to use "reply" whenever possible and paste any text you might need. If you wish to make available a graphic or other type of file, you should let me know or ask on list if there is anyone who is willing to put it on their URL (web site) for viewing or downloading from there. We now have some space available for that and it eases traffic a great deal.
As for those problems we haven't gotten to yet, workers has been discussing a variety of software and other options that should bring us some relief in the future. So, all our best thoughts should be with them! They all deserve a pat on the back for keeping up with a rather hectic number of queries in the last month or two. Great job! Enjoy, and keep it "safe and sane",
