Subject: amps

Just went n a tour of the US (I live in Europe) and I checked out amps that
I'd heard touted here, in many states and stores. The *new* 40 watt tube
*Blues* Fender is pretty good, but nothing to scream about. I really can't
imagine why anyone likes the Crate so much (Even if that's your particular
*sound*, it could be gotten with more control and options from other
amps...) I decided I like the Fender *Hotrod* more than a Bassman- which
surprised me. But, in conclusion, *after extensive research* [and, FWIW, and
for those who asked]... I continue to like little (10-30 watt)tube amps-
miked up. Surprise. And an off button built into the mic to shut off the
mike when not playing. What I need now are ways to buy this stuff in Germany
without paying extra tolls or a *surcharge* for living here.

I didn't bring much back and I'm still looking for deals on Tweeds/Champs
etc. Anyone got a way to ship stuff to Europe without paying that new
customs/tax thing???? Ebay is, like, useless with this extra charge (one
pays a tax based on the objects *value*. A 600 dolar amp costs you another
1-300 marks!). I missed y'all. It's fun reading the months posts (Glad I
missed the 'Gussing' thread though. I'm gussed regularly here. It's like a
Folk/Blues thing- they think it shows solidarity or something...).
