Subject: Best Action for Me

After trying a bunch of different diatonics in the last few months, I've
come
to the conclusion that the best action for me is achieved by combs with 2.5
mm tips or walls. I can tell if there is even a + or - . 5 mm difference.
Of the two models I've tried that have 2.5 mm tips/walls (Big River and
Hering Blues), the Hering Blues has the smoothest, quickest and most
accurate
action. I suspect that action preferences differ from player to player,
much
the way guitarists differ in their string height and thickness preferences.
Anyone else notice such differences in combs to the extent that it
significantly affects their playing?

Does it make sense that the narrower the tip width, the less time it takes
the mouth to travel to the next hole? That the wider the tip the slower the
action and the narrower the tip, the quicker the action? Does it always
hold
true? I find that Lee Oskar combs are almost too narrow for me (the
narrowest, at 2 mm). They're fast but somehow I miss more notes than with
2.5 mm combs. I find that Marine Bands and Special 20's have good action,
but at 3.0 mm and 2.75 mm respectively, are a tad slower than the Hering and
Big River. Comments anyone or am I the only one this picky?
