Hi Roger,

I have no strong opinion about micropore one way or the other. I am a
harmonica technician. Usually I work on my own harps or those of students
with the goal of teaching them to maintain there own harps. I have several
ways of making harps airtight that do not involve micropore.I am sure
micropore can help to solve some problems, but I would not recommend using
it on every harp. I will ask "the master of harp repair" Joe Filisko what he
thinks, the next time I see him.
I can imagine that if you told them on harp-l that micropore was a
crutch, that you would catch hell. It doesn't matter that in a way you may
have been correct. Let me put it this way:.
As a hobby I work on some very old vehicles. These things have a tendency to
leak oil. If I were to try to stop the leaks with gobs of silicone without
regard to making sure that all the surfaces fit as closely as possible, that
would be very sloppy workmanship. However a little silicone used very
sparingly is very helpful.
I can't believe that they banned you from harp-l just for attacking a
"Sacred Cow". A little controversy is a good thing. I have gotten some flak
in the past for being against altered tunings.
It is important to remember that everyone is entitled to an opinion, and
when those opinions differ then we must agree to disagree.

Sincerely

Bob Meehan
