Subject: Re: Princeton Reverb Replacement Speaker?

I dont know much about the Princeton's but I have a Bassman RI with the
Jenson P10R's in it and I love it. This amp is awesome. I have done some
mods to it and the overall sound is godly. I assume (I know, ass you me)
that the speakers have something to do with it and I wouldnt replace them
for anything.

On an semi-unrelated note. I heard that some of the older blues guitarists
would poke a ton of small holes in their speakers with a pencil tip for a
warmer broken sound. Anyone else ever hear this and maybe try it in a harp
amp ???? (hell no I wont poke out my Bassman speakers, you do it first)

> Okay, friends, I have been collecting speaker info from the archives and
a few other bulletin boards. I'm getting pretty close to making a decision
but I'd like to get another round of responses from this group. I'd think
twice about posting but we have beat several topics well into the ground in
recent weeks. At least speaker info and opinions is something we can use.

> Here's my situation: I have a '74 Princeton Reverb that has been
"black-faced". It has also had a modification done to the phase inverter
that boosts the output to about 18 watts. I can't give you the details but
I can say that no tone is lost. In fact, the tone is improved significantly
along with the output. My mics are a Shure Green Bullet and an Astatic
JT30vc, both less than five years old.

don't play guitar very well (or harp for that matter!) so harp gets priority
when weighing information.

sound, maybe a little more "raw" than that. I apologize to those offended
by this cliche. :)

harper at http://www.webervst.com/vstbbs/bbs.html on the Speakers BB. He
prefers the P10N in a one speaker amp and makes a pretty strong argument.
He does suggest the P10NR as possibly the best of both worlds. Anybody use
a P10NR? In a single-speaker amp? In a Princeton Reverb? For harp and
guitar?

and P10NR are $140. I'm pretty cheap by nature but I'm not opposed to
spending the $140 if the difference is substantial.

> As for other possibilities like the P10Q, C10Q, etc., I'm not opposed to
hearing more about those. It does seem, however, that for every person who
loves a "Q" speaker, there are two people who think they are too bright and
efficient. I am leaning towards using one of Ted Weber's speakers or one of
the Jensen Reissues he also sells.

> Oh, just out of curiosity--anybody try to put two 8" speakers in a PR?
I'd also be interested to hear from anyone using a PR to power an external
cabinet.
