Subject: amp funk

Well, Sam's recent post about the VC508 made me think about mine. Lately,
it's been acting a bit weird. Every now and then when I use it it makes
noise, as if the volume and gain are turned up without an input (but if
anything the output from the mic/synth/whatever is decreased, sometimes to
allmost inaudible). This then goes in and out, but not with any time
pattern (not like an LFO), and then it goes away for long stretches of time.
I've switched the tube which you switch the tone with (I've tried both 12at7
and 12au7 tubes, and the intermittent noise happens with both). I took the
other tube (power tube?) out, and it looked fine, but if it is a power tube
and this seems allmost like an overflow of power to some areas, perhaps that
is it. But, I don't know much about amps, and so was wondering if anyone
had any advice.

Harp content--Shure Commandos make a great harp mic. Not as crunchy as the
Green Bullet, but with a thick, rich tone which I really like, and which
takes effects really well without losing it's character.
