Subject: big river harps

The Big River harps I just bought sound good, but the sharp edges
were cutting my mouth so I "sanded" them with crocus cloth
now they taste funny. Did I take a protective finish off?
It;s like when you taste tinfoil. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
