These claims are outrageous! The ballyhoo about materials differences is coming mostly from those who profit from the sale of harps containing exotic materials. Airtightness and expert reed setup can help justify the higher price of a custom harp. Metal combs may very well be worth a much higher price for their dimensional precision and stability... but not for superior tone.
Previous public blind comparisons at SPAH and Buckeye have established the inability of listeners to hear the "subtle" differences in tone claimed for differences in materials.
At SPAH01, there will be a public blind comparison to see if a harp player can reliably distinguish one material from another. The player and I have a $1000 bet on the outcome.
