Subject: cheap equipment

My favorite amp is an ancient Champ that looks like it went through a flood.
A better, nicer distortion than anything else I've ever played. I have a
friend who is a tube amp fanatic so I've had a chance to try quite a few.

I play live through an old bassman head I payed $75.00 for. Loud, reliable.
Point to point wiring, all tubes...Those things are worth the cost. If you
find an amp that gives you that sound, it is worth buying. Next winter my
tube guru is going to rebuild my old airline to metal tube champ specs. I
can't wait.

Tube amps are great. Be a fanatic. If you can afford a new, hand built
botique amp go for it. If not either learn electronics and soldering, or
find a friend that works cheap. 70s Fender amps are still a good deal and
can be modified to black face specs fairly cheap.

I recommend amps that can be turned up to 11. They're louder!
