Been mostly lurking lately but I thought I'd chime in here. I bought a tweed deluxe kit from Mission Amps in Colorado after coming across a web site called the Deluxe 5e3 Project (http://www.toad.net/~nubbin/5e3). The project is aimed towards newbie tube amp DIY'ers. The kit is actually sitting in my basement waiting for me to get started (been a busy summer), but I mention this because the kit is well thought out and Bruce Collins of Mission Amps has made himself available to answer questions on building the kit on the web site.
I don't think I'll save much money with this kit (I should end up with a tweed deluxe clone for around $500 or so), but I've wanted to learn more about building and repairing tube amps and find this project very promising.
