Golden Melodies, along with other Hohner diatonics, haven't been tuned
to A=440 in some time. They are, as you have discovered, tuned
somewhat sharp to compensate for the flat they tend to flatten when
you play them hard.

There are several different conventions for numbering the different
octaves. The most commonly used one numbers middle C (261.626 Hz,
assuming equal temperament at A=440) as C5. This is the same note as 1
blow on a standard C harp.
