As much as I welcome discussion on the subject of "That's It", I'm fearful that it could turn into the new milleniums "Le Riff"! LOL! Comments on your response follow the quotes below.

Berto sez: >'That's it' has the best sounding first note ever ! But my own impression of the chromatic part in this song is that it was a mistake by LW. Either he wasn't too familiar with the chromatic at that time, or he forgot which key he was playing in, and thought he was playing in D and could switch to the chromatic....
CSB replies (In CAPS but not shouting) WE'RE IN AGREEMENT THAT THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST SOUNDING FIRST NOTES EVER BUT my argument against your statement of him not being familiar with the chromatic are 2 tunes cut later at this 1953 session: Lights Out Fast Large One
I think both of these tunes show that Walters familiarity with the chromatic was formidable. And once again let me reiterate that your argument about it being a mistake is echoed by many other harp enthusiasts! I still don't think it was a mistake (IMHO).
Berto sez: >But this is simply my view, and pure speculation of course ... Still I think the chromatic part in this song was the reason why it was never issued by Chess, it just doesn't sound 'right' ...
CSB replies (In CAPS but not shouting) ALL OF THIS IS MY HUMBLE OPINION AND SPECULATION AS WELL AND I WOULD AGREE THAT HIS "OFF" NOTE CHOICE DID PROBABLY LEAD TO THE CUT BEING UNISSUED AT THE TIME, BUT I STILL MAINTAIN THAT HIS HARP CHOICE WAS INTENTIONAL. IT'S MY story and I'm sticking to it!
