Wow! I won on that show in 1947!!! Do you realize that was 45 years ago! I tell everybody that that was my FATHER!!! So now I've been exposed (-:)) And all this time I have been passing for Forty! (Will you accept 50????) Anyway, Arthur G. was very good to me..He had me play the Capitol theatre with him in New York...Took me on the road with him as well...I appeared with him in Washington DC..And later I was a "regular" on alternate wednesdays on his show..(I shared those appearances with the great Charlie Magnante who was one of the truly great accordianists of that era..) Godfrey would always screw me up on his show...I would rehearse with the orch whatever I had prepared for that show...When the show aired...and my turn came, arthur would say something like: "Aw the hell with that, Let's play sweet Sue or some other dumb tune that he could play on the Ukelele...And I was expected to join in...What key? Who the hell knew..I just wailed away...That's probably why in my later performances (up to the present) I always challenge the audience to call out any tune they'd like, and I put them together in an impromtu arrangement... So now I'm 84 years old..Married (to the same gal) for 61 years..Still going strong...and don't expect to retire for at least 25 years!!
All the best, Blackie
