Archguitar Duo and Robert Bonfiglio Featured in Mohawk Trail Concerts'
"Cabaret IX" on Saturday, May 4

DEERFIELD-Mohawk Trail Concerts will present its ninth annual benefit
"Cabaret IX" on Saturday, May 4th at 7:30 to be held at the White Church in
Old Deerfield, MA. Entitled "Bach to the Blues," the program will feature
the premier collaboration of the Archguitar Duo, Peter Blanchette and Jean
Chaine, with harmonica virtuoso Robert Bonfiglio.
Bonfiglio has been called the "Paganini of the harmonica". He has
performed with many leading orchestras including the Boston Pops. William
Bolcom, Pulitzer Prize winning composer and close friend of Arnold Black,
founder of the Mohawk Trail Concerts, has been commissioned to write a
concerto for Bonfiglio. In addition to performing in major concert halls
nationally and internationally, Bonfiglio is founder of The Grand Canyon
Music Festival.
The Archguitar Duo is comprised of local musicians, Peter Blanchette
and
Jean Chaine, who play the archguitar, a unique instrument designed by
Blanchette. They have been credited with virtuosic playing by Billboard
Magazine. Jean Chaine who began his career as a bass player with a variety
of bands now plays the 13 string tenor archguitar with Peter Blanchette
playing the 11 string alto archguitar. Recently, as part of the "Virtual
Consort", they were winners of Garrison Keiller's Prairie Home Companion
"Silver Water Tower Trophy" for Talent from Towns under 2000. They play a
wide collection of music arranged by Blanchette.
Featured in this performance will be some of these arrangements including
music by Bach, and Gershwin. Italian cinema music, a common favorite of
all three musicians, will be a part of the evening's entertainment
including the music of Nino Rota.
Savory treats and wine will be served throughout the performance followed
by dessert and coffee. Tickets are $35 and are available by telephone at
(413) 625-9511 or by mail at Mohawk Trail Concerts Inc., Box 75, Shelburne
Falls, MA 01370.
