Subject: re: cases gig bags, etc...

since everyone's talking about this and people are looking for ideas:

i have a case, and i have kind of a travel bag. the case, for now, is just
an old toolbox. not too big, tin (or something similar) holds more than 12
diatonics in their cases, a chro, my mic, effects box, and a cable. it's
ugly, but functional until i find something better. the other day in banana
republic i found they were selling "satchel" bags for less than $20.the one
i bought is tan canvas, 9.5" wide, 10.5" tall, 2.75" thick. holds a chro and
six diatonics in their cases, or more without. you can easily make a foam
holder for the harps, and really, you could throw a couple more harps in on
top. without the chro (which i don't play anyway, i can hold all 12 harps, a
mic and cable comfortably. slip a notebook in the side with the circle of
fifths or whatever else. best of all, it has a shoulder strap. great for
taking them to the park, and i can plug in in case someone has an amp. i
hate lugging the case around in my hand. neither are perfect for gigs, but
totally useful anyway and much cheaper, smaller, and easier to travel with
than full size harp cases.
anyway, it's an idea for people. i'm sure you could find military surplus
satchels that are the same. check 2nd hand stores for bags or cases too. if
anyone's converted old trumpet cases or sax cases or something, drop me an
e-mail, i'm interested.

i hoping the list archives come back sometime soon.
