This is an open call for original music to be submitted for consideration on the soundtrack of an upcoming movie to be made in Charleston, SC.
Hi all, I've been a subscriber to this list for some time now and have enjoy ed reading the posts. Please take time to read this one carefully. My name is Jimmy Hager, I'm a sax player in Charleston, SC and a novice harmonica player. I wrote a novel about the scene in Charleston back in the early 70's. This novel has been adapted for film and the screenplay is under review by three MAJOR studios. I can't go into a great deal of detail in an open forum like this one but suffice it to say, this film/book project has attracted some serious attention. Those who have read the novel and screenplay are comparing it Chinatown and L. A. Confidential. In other words, a Film Noir, so most of the soundtrack will have a dark tone. Much of the action takes place at night in some erie locations around the lowcountry and there's voodoo everywhere.
Since I wrote the story, the other principals involved have asked me to gather music for the sound track. There are several genres of music representing jazz, cocktail piano, blues, funk/soul, big band swing, acid rock, gospel and opening/closing credits and background music for various scenes that will show up in the film. I'm looking for anything and everything, even if your wife or Mom thinks it's noise, no especially if your Mom thinks it's noise.
Some major players have already submitted their work as well as a few people from this list. But believe it or not one of the songs being considered for the opening credits, that everybody loves immediately was down loaded from a hard drive and sent to me by a subscriber from this list. If you have questions or are interested in having your music considered for this project contact me off list at barisaxji~ol.com
I can only handle material sent to me in a prerecorded format such as tape, disk or CD, preferably CD. I prefer music that for the most part is unknown to the mainstream music scene. Any original 70's style funk or soul will definitely be considered. Instrumentation doesn't matter but songs that are extremely pop or upbeat in nature or content probably won't make the cut unless they could be adapted to fit big band, acid rock or gospel. We're looking for music with an edgy, gritty bite to it. However, I will listen to everything you send. the plan is to have no less than three choices for each piece that makes the final cut. So tell your other musician friends to send their stuff too. Filming could start as early as fall of this year.
I'm also a member of CFA (Carolina Film Alliance) and as an actor here in Charleston, I'm in touch with many independent film producers who are always looking for original music. My acting agency is opening a music branch that will be booking bands here in Charleston and around the Southeast so having your music here may also result in a gig or two.
One final note, you will only be contacted if a song you've submitted is under consideration. Money will be discussed when the final choices are narrowed down, but my understanding at this point is that everything money wise will be handled according to standard industry procedure. Your music will not be copied or used for any promotional purposes without your written permission. This a great opportunity to be heard so let me hear from you.
All music should be sent to: Jimmy Hager 1672 Fairway Place Lane Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464-9500
Thanks Jimmy
