Subject: Re: '59 Bassman, Victoria, RI Bassman....Concert? (fwd)

Hi Bob please explain this point in a little more
detail. The jargon is a little hard for this reformed
acoustic player who is now jamming on a RI59BM.

"What most people
don't know is that unlike the majority of Fender tube
amps which have what's
called passive tone controls (which means turning the
controls all the way
up is actually at flat response from the factory and all
you're doing is
cutting and nothing else),"

What do you mean by cutting and nothing else?

Thanks for the education.

Hi,
I don't own a 4-10 Tan Concert, but I do like these amps. Most harp players
I know who've used them either love them or hate them. What most people
don't know is that unlike the majority of Fender tube amps which have what's
called passive tone controls (which means turning the controls all the way
up is actually at flat response from the factory and all you're doing is
cutting and nothing else), The 4-10 Concert (and also some of the 2-10 Tan
Supers and the Vibroverb) uses active tone controls (which anthing either
way of 5 you're boosting or cutting for real, and that's the way solid state
amps work), and so you set the controls first at 5 and work your way down.

When I saw William Clarke at the House of Blues here in Cambridge, M, he was
using a real '59 Bassman in series with a 4-10 Tan Concert, and he sounded
tough!!
