Subject: Ahh the Bassman saga...close subs

- --part1_94.28d24225.2a57a9d6_boundary

Someone mentioned a Silvertone amp that was similar to the 59 Bassman. The
amp probably is quite similar since most amp circuits from the 50's were AT&T
or a derivative. The tweed era amps from Fender, Gibson, Silvertone, Supro,
Gretsch, Alamo, etc. all had very similar circuits. In the 60's all these
amps went their own directions with circuit design. If you come across an
amp that has the same basic tube setup to a bassman, you might as well try it
out! Some of my bargain-basement amps have a killer sound that no Fender can
touch. Obviously, the same amp circuit with different transformers, speakers
and enclosures will sound different. The fun is in the hunt!
